RIP Reesa Brown

Austin has lost a literary treasure this week. Horror/science fiction author Reesa Brown passed away yesterday afternoon after a long battle with cancer.

Reesa had her first professional story sales in 2008, appearing in two anthologies: Triangulation: Taking Flight and Unspeakable Horror: From the Shadows of the Closet. Although her illness interfered with her ability to write and publish, she always kept up to as her health allowed, and leaves behind a number of pieces, including the Chrysalis project. Reesa also chronicled her cancer journey regularly, until she was too ill to do so.

In addition to her own projects, Reesa was an excellent editor and critic, who was always willing to help her friends develop their projects and careers. In addition to being a writer and supporter, she was a mother, ran a piercing shop, was a skilled poker player, and enjoyed dancing.

Reesa is survived by her daughter, stepson, husband, parents, step-parents, and brother.
